DAS ESOTERISCHE LICHTRITUAL
The Esoteric Light Ritual, 1950

(Translation: İsmail Akgöz, April 2024)

The Esoteric Light Ritual is sacred and very important. The sacred lighting of the light is performed as follows:

The Magus raises both arms wide open, looks upwards, and speaks devoutly:

HOLY SPIRIT, WHO IS DIVINE,
WHO WAS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD,
WHO IS STILL IN ME TODAY,
WHO DWELLS IN ALL CREATURES OF THE EARTH,
WHO VIBRATES EVERYWHERE IN THE COSMOS,
I CALL YOU!! GIVE ME LIGHT!
IN THE NAME OF THAT POWER,
WHICH BROUGHT LIGHT TO THE EARTH,
I CALL:
LET THERE BE LIGHT!

Now, using tapers, the candles are lit. Before lighting each candle, the last three lines of the above invocation are to be spoken. After the lighting, one must bow three times before the light. When all the candles are burning, one should loudly say:

THERE WAS LIGHT!
IT IS ILLUMINATED!
I AM ENLIGHTENED!
I AM IN THE LIGHT!
AROUND ME IS DARKNESS!

The Magus should now extinguish the auxiliary candle brought into the circle, check the existing utensils, and if necessary, add enough incense. On this occasion, it should be noted that candles should never be blown out. The flame should be extinguished with the fingers or using a candle snuffer. If possible, a gong should be used as follows: Before each invocation and ritual action within the entire conjuration, the gong should be struck as many times as corresponds to the magical number of the invoked planet.

Now begins...

The actual invocation begins. Those who cannot recite the somewhat unusual names of the angels and demons in the given order from memory should write them down clearly and legibly, and bring the transcript, which should be adapted to the sacred character of the entire action, into the circle. Parchment paper is best used for this purpose. Such records, which the student can create for the magical cult at their own discretion, must be kept secret, as should everything related to this. Strict confidentiality is also required. Never discuss rituals or invocations that one intends to perform with untrustworthy people. Adherence to these guidelines is a prerequisite for the successful completion of the experiment. The Magus should always be mindful that from the first experiment on, astral beings are drawn to him, which will avenge any profanation. This should be heeded under all circumstances, as a number of occultists have been driven to madness by the destructive will of otherworldly, often evil entities. Only those who perform actions according to the given instructions avoid such pitfalls.

All invocations should initially be performed standing. To avoid fatigue, the student can adopt a comfortable seat (Buddha or Egyptian seat) during the experiment or use a small three-legged stool. If a magic mirror is used, it should be placed in the circle so that it can be comfortably looked into. Do not forget to treat it beforehand according to the instructions of mirror practice. If a larger wall mirror is available, it should also be placed on the floor like a standing mirror, in the direction of the student's view.

Before the actual invocation, i.e., before lighting the lights, the Magus should relax completely through regular and concentrated deep breathing. Then, perform a vowel breathing exercise of their choice, preferably on "I," "OM," or "U." During the experiment, suitable breathing exercises can be inserted for willpower reinforcement.

Now, the student takes the magic sword or wand in the right hand and begins the invocation. After completing it, they sit down and remain passive and silent, expectantly looking into the mirror or ahead. The Magus should not be frightened if strange sounds and noises become loud in the room, a murmuring and whispering begins around him, even if a rustling and droning becomes audible, the windows clatter, or the whole house trembles.

Possibly, a cool breeze will blow around the Magus. All this comes from supernatural forces. Strange-looking figures that become visible at the circle need not be given any attention; they are elemental beings, harmless thought phantoms. However, if a demonic being manifests, the aforementioned signs intensify and it becomes ice cold in the room.

If no effect is seen shortly after the conjuration, the Magus should rise, speak the invocation again, and then behave expectantly. Invocations must not be repeated more often than the magical number of the respective planet allows. If no appearance is visible even then, the Magus should still remain passive and intensely occupy themselves with the things for which the conjuration was performed, i.e., the desire power must consciously direct itself towards the goal, as it is entirely possible that a being is in the room which is not visible to the Magus due to insufficient receptivity, or which cannot manifest for some reason. Under these circumstances, the being can only make itself known spiritually and come to the Magus's mind.

One cannot necessarily conclude that the experiment has failed if no appearance has become visible at all, as the called entities often make themselves known to the Magus in the following nights, bringing him the fulfillment of his wishes in dream experiences, where dream experience here means correct experiencing on the astral plane. It is therefore advisable to always carefully observe dreams; the so-called deep sleep dreams are by no means mere "foams," as the human astral body involuntarily comes into contact with the beyond during sleep. Dreams can mostly only be interpreted symbolically, unless they contain clear and unambiguous instructions.

If a visible manifestation occurs during a properly conducted conjuration, the Magus should try with all energy to remain master of his senses and not to be frightened. Controlling himself, he should face the appearance, expressing his joy and satisfaction mentally that the demon has followed his call. The being obeys the student only if it feels his willpower. Woe to the one who fails in this respect. The demon would immediately try to seize him in a vampiric and mind-destroying sense.

If the invoked entity appears indistinct, nebulous, without a recognizable face, or as a flat concentration in space, the Magus should extend his left palm towards it and say:

YOU BEING FROM THE BEYOND,
I GIVE YOU THE POWER OF MY BODY,
I GIVE YOU THE POWER OF MY BLOOD,
I GIVE YOU THE POWER OF MY SPIRIT,
TO HELP YOU MAKE YOURSELF VISIBLE.
APPEAR! APPEAR! APPEAR!

At these words, the Magus should consciously radiate Od through his left hand chakra in the direction of the apparition. The entities manifest in various ways: sometimes the Magus sees only eyes that piercingly focus on him; at other times, only a face, and occasionally a whole figure. Depending on the astral images associated with the invoked planets, the entities often appear half as an animal and half as a human. The Magus should also pay attention to the expression in the eyes of the apparition, whether it is evil, harsh, or benevolent; it is mostly cold and cruel. The Magus, who knows the nature of astral beings, should not be disturbed by the most terrible and horrifying appearance of the figures. As long as he is within the magic circle, he has absolute power over them. He should always be aware of being a divine creation with divine powers as a human. The colors of the beings should also be noted. For example, red is a sign of belonging to the astral plane.

If there are sure signs of the presence of a being, ask for its name in the following way with a loud voice:

BEING FROM THE BEYOND!
I ASK YOU FOR YOUR NAME!
WHO ARE YOU?
ARE YOU THE ONE I HAVE CALLED?
I COMMAND YOU:
IN THE NAME OF THE ALMIGHTY GOD,
IN THE NAME OF ADONAI,
TELL ME YOUR NAME!
SHOW ME YOUR SIGIL!

The answer is not always audible. It is mostly perceived mentally. For the beings vibrate in a sphere where thought transmission is readily possible.

Very often, all sorts of strange formations become visible at the edge of the circle, most of them of grotesque appearance. They need not be paid attention to. These are so-called elemental beings, which look dark gray and lack any radiation. Astral beings, on the other hand, are immediately recognizable by their particular vibration radiation. The repetitions of the various invocations must correspond with the traditional magical base numbers of the respective planets, namely:

Saturn 3,
Jupiter 4,
Mars 5,
Earth 6,
Venus 7,
Mercury 8,
Moon 9,
Sun 12.

Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto cannot be invoked, as their spheres cannot be reached with the will of the Magus.

[In the German original, Eugen Grosche subsequently describes a Moon Invocation as an example. HEREBY I INVOKE IN THE NAME OF ADONAI BY THE POWER OF MY MAGICAL AND DIVINE WILL THE ENTITIES OF THE MOON SPHERE TO MANIFEST THEMSELVES! etc. etc.]
